The Earth is Breathing...

Image
The Earth Is Breathing... A meaningful reflection... Sunday morning: 6 AM The sun’s morning rays are streaming through my window, creating a summer-gold tint on my face. The subtle breeze makes a "whoosh" sound and causes my window curtains to ripple. Time feels so still. On my windowsill, a daisy bud I planted weeks ago is finally sprouting. The other seeds have already emerged and grown into dainty daisies. Earth’s life cycle is interesting like that. Change is constant to every small moment... I’ll check on my little bud in a few hours. Sunday morning: 9:30 AM I'm in the veggie garden now and the sun is hiding behind the most dreamy pearl-white and ash-grey clouds. It looks like it’s going to rain soon; not that I'm complaining- the rain's sound is so suave. Myy tomatoes are finally looking bright red and ripe, ready to get picked. My grape leaves on the other hand, have small toothpick-sized holes; it must have been those pesky caterpillars again.  Sunday mor...

Free Food Petition

Petition Link In the effort to bring some type of change, I wrote this petition and explained once again the impact that the misuse of the free-food program (in elementary schools) is causing. A sign and share would be so helpful! https://chng.it/LRqFqQpB

Free Food: A friend or a foe?

11:50 AM... we're sitting in class, watching the clock above our teacher. The bell is going to ring for lunch in 3... 2... anddd 1. Not even waiting for our teacher to dismiss us, we rush to the doors and speed to the lunch line. Doors are banging and the cacophony of chattering students fill up the school's interior. No one stops to remember the pin number they have to give to the lunch lady, or if they have lunch money in their backpack. After all, that's a thing of the past- or as we might know it better, before the pandemic. Free meals in schools all across the country have brought devastating consequences and have affected the way students and even their parents handle these opportunities and resources. For this reason, the access that younger students have to this option of free meals should be more strictly supervised by staff members at elementary schools specifically, and maybe even reduced. First and mainly, meals in elementary schools are planned out to balance e...

One Door Always Leads to Another

Image
One door always leads to another... Journal Entry 1; September 1 PERSON 1 The sun's shining rays scattered a morning glow around my room through my glass windows, awakening me to the most serene feeling. It was Sunday and early, but I yearned to follow through with my plans of having at least a "half-productive" afternoon, so I forced myself out of bed. Baby bluebirds were chirping in the distance, and a slight breeze filling the early sky. I soaked in the glow of the sun as I stood by my window, sighing, wishing that city life could be like this too. The flower seeds I had planted weeks ago on my window garden had finally started to blossom too. Picking up my phone, missed calls and unread messages took over my screen. Insta Dm's... messages... and I didn't even bother to see what else because I was in no mindset to deal with whatever they needed to say to me. It's why I came to my apartment, away from the city, in the first place. I shut down my phone with a...

An Important Letter

Image
04/28/2021 Dear Future Me/Myself/I,     Where to start... First of all, I didn't actually think I would pull through a letter to you because you're you who is me, who again, is you. That totally made sense... 😐? Anyways, how are you doing (don't even think about critiquing that line- how else am I suppose to start a conversation with my older self).  It's weird though because 5 years later, I would think I still know you, even though I probably don't. Details though, am I right? First off, how's Naaya doing? She's 13 now right... or 12? Does she still despise doing writing homework... haha remember how when she didn't want to do any more work, she would literally make it her goal to not work anymore, even if that meant staying in her chair until she gave up 😂. She was driven... but I'm assuming (and hoping) that her work ethics changed just a little. 7th grade now, right? Wow. I don't think I could have ever imagined my little drama queen growi...

Notes from Nobody

Image
There were dark grey clouds blanketing the sky, looking just right for a thunderstorm. Beyond the hill which I stood on, there was a faint silhouette in the distance. As I crept downhill and closer to the figure, I made out some sort of building. I kept moving, but heard a strike of thunder land behind me, raising EVERY. SINGLE. Hair on my body. Now I was jogging while thunder cracked openly in the air, making a more violent, threatening sound every time.  The building was a ghastly black (more black than your darkest dreams), vintage school with a giant dusty red bell at the top of the main doors, looking as if it had been unused for decades. Obviously, most of the building looked like that. The doors had a crack in them, but it was more natural with rugged edges, so I assumed a tornado or some lightning had hit the school (which didn't help my situation). As I crept closer, the grass started getting crinkly under my feet, turning a sickish grey color. At one point, there was...

A Valentines Special 🤩

Image
Yeah, it's (well, it was...) the time of year where you go to the love of your life or your highschool sweetheart and ask them to be your Valentine. It's when the chocolates come out. The red roses bloom brighter than your blood. The giant teddy-bears. Valentines Day... it's just something different... but where does it come from and why do we give one day every year to take special time to love your close ones, when we can do that every day (that sounded so cliche)? It all comes from the legend of St. Valentine... The month of February has always been dedicated to romance, and the legend of Saint Valentine pulls both Roman and Christian tradition. I'm not going to bore you all with dull and boring facts, because that tends to happen, but when we are talking about marriage and love, wouldn't it only be interesting?  Saint Valentine The Catholic Church looks up at 3 different saints who were all martyred. One legend says that Valentine was a priest who served in Rom...
